In addition to providing high-quality accommodations and services to its residents, Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury makes a number of programs and services available to members of our local community as well.
Open to RWC residents and to eligible community members for a monthly fee, Fit for Life is a comprehensive wellness program specifically designed with you in mind. Fitness professionals conduct an assessment and design a customized exercise program for new participants. State-of-the-art equipment and a range of exercise activities, including group fitness classes and opportunities to use RWC’s heated (lap) swimming pool, provide every participant the chance to develop cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, strength, and balance. Community members can also take advantage of wellness and nutrition seminars and get advice from certified fitness instructors and a registered dietitian.
If you decide to stay at home but need help with some everyday tasks, RWC can help. RWC has developed At Home with RWC, a service that provides personal or companion care that may include bathing, dressing and grooming, meal preparation, assistance with eating, and medication reminders. Nursing care is also available and may include guided exercise, blood sugar testing, bandage and dressing changes, and assistance with mobility. All services are monitored by a registered nurse. Enrollees pay a fee to participate in the program.
RWC’s Parkinson’s Support Group and Care Partners Group provide a caring and supportive environment for sharing the needs and concerns of those living with Parkinson’s and those caring for them. These groups meet monthly to assist and encourage participants as they adapt to the physical, emotional, and social changes affecting those with Parkinson’s. Medical professionals and researchers routinely attend meetings to discuss advances in treatment and best practices for carrying out daily living activities. A special Fit to Move exercise class, geared to assist those with Parkinson’s in maintaining muscle tone and coordination, meets three times a week. Participation in all activities is free.
RWC’s Westbury Club is a day program for adults over the age of sixty-five who live at RWC or in the surrounding community. While enrollees in the Westbury Club participate in a series of structured activities, family members are free to run errands, attend appointments, or relax, knowing loved ones are being cared for by professionals in a safe environment. The service is available weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (with some holidays excluded). A daily fee covers all activities, lunch, and snacks. Financial assistance is available for those who qualify through the RWC Foundation.
RWC offers support for those in our community concerned about memory loss. Regular group sessions organized by RWC allow those living with memory loss and their families and caregivers a chance to share experiences and learn about new approaches to managing such change. RWC’s close relationship with the local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association assures participants that the latest research and best practices are incorporated into our program. Services are offered at no charge.
